Matthias D\u00fcmpelmann is Head Enginee of at the Epilepsy Center of the University Hospital of Fribourg.

His main research fields are:
– Signal processing of brain signals
– Inverse methods applied to brain signals
– Medical image processing
– Health informatics.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He will talk about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electroencephalogram: how is brain activity recorded and analysed?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can we observe brain activity from the surface of the skull? What do the electrical signals recorded by an EEG reveal? And how is artificial intelligence transforming the way these signals are analysed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This presentation, open to everyone, invites you to discover the electroencephalogram, from the first recording made by Hans Berger in 1924 right up to today\u2019s methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will look at how electrodes detect the activity of large groups of neurons, how specialists attempt to pinpoint the source of abnormal signals \u2013 particularly those linked to epilepsy \u2013 and why this remains a complex task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, we will explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in detecting abnormalities, recognising epileptic seizures and interpreting test results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An introduction to how the EEG works, its capabilities and its limitations, aimed at the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The presentation will be given in German, with translation of the text into French.<\/strong>
Dr. Vera Dinkelacker, coordinator of the IMAGINE-STIM project, will be available to answer questions in French and in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
